The IRS has extend the filing and payment deadline from April 15th to May 17th.

Tax Forms:
The Library has received copies of the Federal 1040 forms and instruction booklets. There we no CT State Tax forms distributed this year. You will not find any at other libraries, post offices or town halls. We can print copies of blank CT tax forms from the DRS website but NOT the instruction booklets (too many pages).

People can call the CT Dept of Revenue Services at 860-297-5962 (from anywhere) OR 800-382-9463 (Connecticut calls outside the Greater Hartford calling area only) and request tax forms, booklets, and instructions that DRS maintains in-house, to be mailed directly to the patron’s home.

VITA program:
Virtual VITA offered through the North Branford Public Libraries

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, people with disabilities, or limited English speakers who need help in preparing & filing their own state and federal income tax returns.

Due to COVID, there will be no on-site tax preparation this year at the Library.
All returns will be completed virtually by IRS-certified preparers working remotely. The Library will help clients with scanning their information and documents, which will then be used to prepare tax returns by VITA volunteers, working remotely. Clients must have a valid email address to send and receive tax documents. The Library will not email client documents to the volunteer tax preparers.

People are encouraged to call either the Atwater or Smith Library for more details and a list of the information & documents necessary for tax preparation. Patrons wishing to have their taxes prepared and filed through VITA can call us AFTER February 12th at which point we can distribute to clients VITA Coordinator’s contact information.
