Join us for a special presentation from local author, Sally Bahner, as she discusses her book, The Art of Raising a Kitten, and shares her tips and experience on how best to care for our furry little friends.
Longtime cat expert and journalist, Sally E. Bahner of Branford has combined her years of research and her own experiences with her beloved felines to provide step-by-step guidance on navigating those early months of kitten care. Holistic veterinarian Jean Hofve, DVM, has shared her expertise on medical issues that may be faced during those critical months.
Starting with the expectant mom, “The Art of Raising a Kitten” takes you through the week-by-week milestones of kitten development. There’s an emphasis on socialization as the foundation for the purrfect relationship with your kitten.
With a focus on the kinder and gentler aspect of integrative care, the book explores choices based on the lifestyle of the kitten. For instance, the number and frequency of vaccinations depends on that lifestyle – inside vs. outside and likelihood of exposure – rather than rote determination. The importance of quality nutrition is also discussed, along with health challenges that may be encountered.
Bahner is an award-winning member of Cat Writers’ Association and has contributed to pet publications, magazines, and local newspapers for more than 25 years. She publishes a blog, exclusivelycats.wordpress.com
Published by Cliverse Publishing, the book includes photographs of kittens in all stages of development, including the author’s own felines.
